IOS updates affecting MiCollab

Posted in : All, Mitel | August 30, 2017

Notifications unavailable on pre-MiCollab 8.0

APPLE'S NEXT MAJOR IOS RELEASE (POST-IOS 10) WILL INCLUDE THE REMOVAL OF APIS THAT PREVIOUSLY PROVIDED NOTIFICATIONS TO BACKGROUND APPLICATIONS. THIS MEANS IF THE MICOLLAB SERVER SOFTWARE IS NOT UPDATED TO RELEASE 8.0, ONCE THE MICOLLAB CLIENT MOVES INTO THE BACKGROUND ON THE DEVICE THE COMMUNICATIONS CHANNEL WILL BECOME UNAVAILABLE. IN THIS CASE, MICOLLAB USERS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED WITH NOTIFICATION OF ASPECTS SUCH AS INCOMING CALLS, MITEAM INVITES, AND IM MESSAGES.

APPLE CONSIDERS AN APPLICATION AS “RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND” WHEN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS ARE TRUE:

  • THE APPLICATION IS RUNNING OFF SCREEN

  • THE IPHONE OR IPAD IS LOCKED

  • THE IPHONE OR IPAD SCREEN IS TURNED OFF

WHILE APPLE HAS NOT STATED A FIRM RELEASE DATE OR A FIRM COMMITMENT ON THESE PROPOSED CHANGES, THEY ARE ANTICIPATED TO OCCUR WITHIN THE IOS 11 RELEASE. IOS 11 IS EXPECTED TO BE AVAILABLE BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER 2017.

What can you do?

Please contact your Voysis IP Solutions Account Manager.  We will explain the importance of scheduling for an update (especially if using iOS devices) once the MiCollab 8.0 server software is available. The upcoming MiCollab 8.0 release (scheduled for August 31) will address these changes and allow for the continuation of services for iOS users.
